UFC on Fox 8?s Three Stars: Robbie Lawler among the fighters who stood out

UFC on Fox 8 was filled with split decisions and a fight that UFC president Dana White trashed. However, there were some standout performances. Who were the Three Stars?

No. 1 star -- Robbie Lawler: Of all the fighters who joined the UFC after Strikeforce folded, who did you expect to really shine? It's unlikely Robbie Lawler was on the top five of your list as he was just 2-3 in his five fights before returning to the UFC. He made a complete turnaround, knocking out Josh Koscheck in February before putting a beatdown on Robbie Voelker on Saturday night.

No. 2 star -- Melvin Guillard: Riding a two-fight losing streak, Guillard knew he had to win to keep his job with the UFC. Guillard delivered. He knocked out Mac Danzig with enough power to earn a Knockout of the Night bonus and pick up some job security.

No. 3 star -- Demetrious Johnson: The flyweight champion held onto his belt and convinced anyone who didn't believe in his abilities with a fifth-round submission of John Moraga. Before that submission with an armbar, Johnson beat up on Moraga for 23 minutes and 43 seconds, showing why he holds the belt.

Who stood out from Saturday's fights for you? Speak up on Facebook and Twitter.

Hoku, Solar and Fuel Cell Aspirant, Bankrupt With $1B in Debt

Hoku Corp just filed for bankruptcy in Pocatello federal court according to reports in the Idaho State Journal.

Hoku started out as a fuel cell membrane and materials company, went public in 2005 on little revenue, and then pivoted to becoming a solar polysilicon manufacturer. The company also tried its hand at solar installation in home-state Hawaii with $1.6 million in 2013 revenue, according to reports in Hawaii's Star Advertiser.

The firm's stock was delisted from the Nasdaq last year. The company is now $1 billion in debt to 30 creditors including Tianwei and the Idaho plant's main construction contractor. Hoku is a subsidiary of Tianwei New Energy Holdings, which is an affiliate of China South Industries Group Corporation (CSGC). CSGC is a mammoth firm with 191,000 employees. Tianwei manufactures polysilicon, wafers, cells and modules.

In 2012, in a case of questionable timing, Hoku was looking to open up a long-threatened $700 million polysilicon plant in Pocatello, Idaho -- a factory looking to supply a transitioning and hobbled market. Hoku's CFO and CEO resigned around that time while the company was having difficulty paying its Idaho electric bill. Hoku had received $280 million in prepayments from PV panel manufacturers such as Hanwa SolarOne, Tianwei New Energy, Jinko Solar, and and a small prepayment from Suntech for polysilicon to be delivered between 2012 and 2016. The firm has been threatening to build the Idaho factory since 2008 -- when polysilicon was more expensive than today.

The firm never really had a technological differentaition in silicon manufacturing or in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM)? fuel cells. Nor did it seem to have a strategic business plan, other than to go public and pay its executives.

Perhaps its Chinese Fortune 1000 conglomerate parent will engineer a financial rescue of the firm.

Apple Inc has brought on board Paul Deneve, the erstwhile CEO of French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, as Special Projects vice president.

Deneve, a sales and marketing manager for Apple in Europe between 1990-97, resigned from YSL earlier this week, saying he was looking for a new opportunity in the tech sector.

The 52-year-old Belgian has also worked for Courreges, Lanvin and Nina Ricci.

"We're thrilled to welcome Paul Deneve to Apple," company spokeswoman Kristin Huguet said in a statement. "He'll be working on special projects as a vice president reporting directly to Tim Cook", CEO of the California-based tech giant.

Analysts saw Deneve's appointment as a sign that Apple is serious about exploring the possibilities of wearable computing and is alert to the trend of a merging of technology with fashion.

It was revealed on Monday that the technology giant has applied for a trademark for "iWatch" in Japan. The trademark application, submitted on June 3 and released on the Japan Patent Office website on June 27, would cover computers, computer peripherals and wristwatches
